Platonic Leap (2025)

DUM project space

Ljubljana, Slovenia

October 2025

Platonic Leap is a visual-performative work by Iva Suhadolnik Gregorin that takes the very content of the stage as its subject. The project is developed in parallel with its sister project, a dance-movement piece titled Platonic Dances by Alja Branc Barbosa (https://ptl.si/septe.../2025/8/15/alja-branc-platonic-dances). Essentially, Platonic Leap interrogates the role of the photographer on/adjacent to, and behind the stage, seeking to redefine this position. Within this framework, the artist assumes the role of a performer in the Platonic Dances production; she embodies a character who ‘performs’ the part of a photographer. As a visual artist, she engages in the on-stage improvisation, inserting herself into the core of the narrative rather than maintaining a distanced observer’s perspective. Consequently, the artist establishes herself as a co-creator of the stage content within the performance itself alongside dancers Alja Branc, Lara Matea Ivančič and Patrik Kelemen. Platonic Dances functions as both the subject and primary environment for the development of Platonic Leap; in which it critically examines the mechanisms of documentary art photography as a medium. Throughout the process, the resulting performative-documentary material is exhibited virtually on Instagram profile @platonic_twins, a platform that also serves as a contemporary joint archive for these sibling projects.
